What is a dehumidifier?

A common question that people often have is what is a dehumidifier.  The answer is simple: it is a type of air conditioner.

In common usage an air conditioner is a device that cools the air.  However, any device that changes the condition of the air is technically also an air conditioner.  Heaters, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, etc. all fit into this category.

Particular Case: Dehumidifier

In the case of dehumidifiers, the device removes water from the air to lower the relative humidity.  That’s it.  That’s all a dehumidifier does.  It removes water from the air.
